Picnic by Lynn Saub: for homey meals and chill weekends

When the weekend comes, many people just want to forget about work and relax.

Perhaps the best place to do it is Lynn Saub’s Picnic, a popular restaurant located next to SK Seri Hartamas. A friendly family run this beautiful hotel with lots of love. This place is all about getting better at camping, enjoying healthy meals and making new memories. A great place to eat breakfast on weekends, this corner house is now a neighborhood favorite for 41-year-old Lynn Saub.

Its name comes from the idea of ”Picnic”. I like people to relax, come to eat, relax with family and enjoy nature at the same time. he told FMT Lifestyle
Working since October 2023, the idea for the picnic was born when Lynn, who lives in the area, saw a house with a lot of grass and, unfortunately, empty. I see that this space is empty, and not used. So I contacted the owner and told him I wanted to use the outdoor space only. I painted the walls myself and planted green grass to achieve the picnic atmosphere.

But it’s not just green; Lynn has gained many followers because of the welcoming environment she and her family have created.

Not only will you find him chatting well with the diners, but you’ll also find complete strangers chatting, making new friends without Sight-seeing phone – a rare thing among city dwellers.

Lynn said her love for cooking started at a young age, influenced by her father, who was a chef. After finishing school, I used to go to my father’s restaurant and help out, he said.
At the picnic, Lynn serves local food, where his signature dish is nasi lemak na telur mata, ayam goreng berempah, and soto ayam. The fried chicken is a real treat, made with local spices for the perfect crunch, juiciness and flavor. Their sambal, which is somewhere between sweet and spicy, complements the rice perfectly. Lynn adds new items to the menu every weekend. When FMT Lifestyle visited, Indonesian Bakso food is a special food. From sparkling pasta carbonara to shepherd’s pie to hearty noodles, talented chefs love to experiment in the kitchen.

I adapt the menu based on what’s fresh at the grocery store. I also try to cook all kinds of local food including Malay, Chinese and Indian,” explained Lynn.

But be careful: you have to come early because the dishes sell out fast. When it comes to drinks, picnic partners have specialty coffee vendors like the Nightcap Slow Bar, which operates from their van! Regulars love to sit on the sidewalk with lattes or frozen chocolate in hand, while enjoying Lynn’s nasi lemak. FMT Lifestyle likes their frozen chocolate, which is rich in cocoa flavor, heavy, but not sweet.

Just as customers come here to relax, for Lynn, a working mother of two, running this restaurant is a much-needed break from her Monday-Friday office life. I really enjoy doing this, and I feel better when I go back to work on Monday.
