A man and his four-year-old son were killed in a Russian airstrike near the Ukrainian capital, emergency officials said.
An explosion was heard on Saturday evening in the center and east of kyiv, according to the AFP reporter, while the Ukrainian army announced that two Russian missiles were heading for the city. Air sirens were heard in Kyiv and at least two lights were seen in the sky, an AFP reporter said.
KIV military leaders said in a post on Telegram that the country’s air defense system had been activated. The Ukrainian Air Force said five other areas were attacked by drones.
Fragments of a weapon fell on a residential building in the Brovary district near Kyiv, Ukrainian emergency services said on Telegram. He said the bodies of a 35-year-old man and his four-year-old son were found under the rubble of the house during the search and rescue operation, while three others were seriously injured.
Ukrainians fear that Moscow will launch air strikes in response to Kyiv’s recent attacks on Russian territory. Russia conducts regular air and drone attacks in Ukraine.
Kyiv has asked its Western partners to provide more air defense systems. On the Russian side, the governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, indicated that 13 people were injured in the city of Kursk, including two seriously, when a shell from a Ukrainian missile fell on a house at night.
