196 left homeless after stilt houses collapse in Semporna

A total of 196 people from 30 families are homeless after their houses collapsed in Kampung Simunul Lorong 3 this morning.

Semporna police chief Farhan Lee Abdullah said that 30 houses were destroyed, including 28 houses with 190 residents and two other houses inhabited by six foreigners. This happened at 10:15 in the morning, when two houses collapsed, others followed because of the houses next to them, he said in a statement. Farhan said that the collapse on July 8, which has collapsed two houses, may have been caused by strong winds and large waves.

He said that 33 police reports were received after what happened today.

Bersatu has filed for the dismissal of Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, who is seeking a declaration that his dismissal from the party was wrongful and illegal.

Bersatu, represented by Suhaimi Yahya, filed the application at the Shah Alam High Court yesterday through Chetan Jethwani & Company. The party said the court had no jurisdiction to decide the point raised by Suhaili, 63, under section 18C of the Companies Act, 1966.

Bersatu also says that Suhaili does not have the legal right to bring this matter because he is no longer a party member. The complaint of the plaintiff is baseless, outrageous and is a violation of the constitution to achieve a negative objective, Bersatu said in the motion.

Suhaili, who filed a complaint on July 1, said that on November 2, 2023, the Bersatu Disciplinary Committee issued a letter informing him of the charges against him for allegedly violating article 22.1 (f) of the party’s constitution. He said the letter told him that a report had been made about his newspaper supporting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Suhaili said that on the 3rd of November 2023, he wrote a letter to the board explaining that it was because the party did not provide money to help the people of Labuan. He said that despite the rational explanation, the board of directors illegally and recklessly decided to suspend his membership for six years on November 7, 2023.

Suhaili later said that he sued the group through Bersatu general secretary Hamzah Zainudin at the Kota Kinabalu High Court on December 19, 2023, but the suit was dismissed as the court ruled that it should be kept in the peninsula. .

On May 17, Suhaili said he received Hamzah’s letter informing him that he was immediately fired for filing a complaint against the party based on Article 10.2.6 of the party’s constitution.
